Bethlehem
Starting and ending at Tareni Bridge 2 miles North of Pontardawe, a lovely cycle tour around the Black Mountain giving some grand views and changing scenery. Heading North up the Swansea Valley, we then go up the old Trecastle Road. This is a steady 3.5 mile climb to the summit (maximum gradient 8.6%, average about 5%): the spectacular scenery provides a great distraction. A swift descent then a left (care!) onto the mountain road to Llandeusant. After an initial mile of 5.5%climb it’s then mainly downhill to Llandeusant and Llangadog. Then to Bethlehem, Llandeilo (across a concrete path and footbridge) and back via Brynaman. En-route we pass the oldest bike manufacturing site in Wales. Surface Type: A mixture of main roads, quiet country lanes (used by farmers so expect muck and some rough surfaces), a tarmac cycle path and 0.5mile of a concrete path. Hazards: Two tight left turns on sharp descents. Normal road surface hazards of slippy country lanes if muddy/wet Points of Interest: Views along Trecastle Road, Defiance Cycles near Brynaman
Distance: 58 miles
