The Bwlch – Via Ogmore Vale
Route description: Heading south east from McDonalds, mostly flat with some gentle rises, toward Pyle, before turning east and through Aberkenfig. On to dirt/gravel cycle path for approx 2 miles to Blackmill Rejoin road for climb up through Ogmore Vale. 1 – 3%, becoming steeper (10%) just before Nant-y-Moel, for approx .5 mile. Then 3.5 mile of climbing with average gradient of 5-6% to the top. Downhill on good road through Blaengwynfi and onto Cymmer Rejoin the tarmac cycle path through Afan Forest down to Pontrhydyfen. Continuing on cycle path through Cwmafon, down into Port Talbot , back to start. Lunch: Pub/cafe @ Cymmer Surface Type: Road, gravel and tarmac cycle path. Hazards: Care to be taken on the fast descent from the Bwlch. Look Out for: The fantastic viewing point near the top with views across the valley and down to Treorchy. Total ascent feet/metres: 2920’ / 890 metres
